TEHRAN – Iranian directors asked for a fair share of the decision-making in the official cinematic affairs of the country.

The directors voiced their request at the sixth edition of the Directors’ Guild Celebration held at the Mellat Cinema Complex on Wednesday, Persian media reported on Friday.

Speaking at the ceremony, head of the Directors’ Guild Kamal Tabrizi said that they plan to overcome the obstacles in the IHC’s path and help resolve them.

He also expressed hope that all the directors make efforts to establish a brighter future for the cinema of Iran.

The previous managers of the guild were honored at the ceremony, the first of whom was filmmaker Yadollah Samadi.

“The managers come and go, but we remain. The managers have duties, one of which is to try to acquire expanded facilities for filmmakers,” Samadi said in receiving his honorary plaque.

Filmmaker Rakhshan Bani-Etemad was honored as the second director of the guild. She said that her administration only lasted a short time, but the guild has attained a level of stability after 25 years.

Mohammad Bozorgnia and Alireza Raisian, the third and fourth managers were also honored.

Filmmakers Sirus Alvand, Hamid Jebelli, Iraj Tahmasb, Ahmadreza Darvish, and Dariush Mehrjuii, as directors from different eras, were honored next at the ceremony.

Darvish called the numerous active guilds under the leadership of the Iranian House of Cinema a valuable treasure for the cinema of Iran.

He emphasized that the main thing the cinema of Iran can rely upon is its artists, adding that the economy of cinema and its technical equipment are in decline.

In his short speech Mehrjuii said that the cinema of Iran is witnessing good days and will get even better in the future. He added that Iran’s cinema shines at international festivals and the youth have a major role in it.
